Can I drive this rental car?

I'm 18, live with my mom. Do not have a car of my own, but share my moms with her. The one she owns broke down in the driveway yesterday, so she rented a car. So far, she will not let me drive it, I'm not quite sure of why this is. But she keeps going on about being in her name, so she does not know if I can drive it. I live in Florida, and I am licensed. Can I drive it?
